The second stage is stretching (distraction, lengthening). Our technique allows growth at about 1 mm a day. Duration of the distraction period depends on how long the patient wants to grow his/her legs and usually takes 2-3 months.

The third stage is consolidation (fixation). It takes about twice as long as lengthening. Usually the fixation period takes 4-6 months. At the end of the consolidation period the frames are removed.

The operation is usually performed on both legs at the same time. 
The maximum possible leg lengthening is 7-9 cm.
During treatment the patients are active, the next day after the operation they can walk without help. The function of the legs is retained because patients can move during the whole period of treatment.  
During distraction patients should stay in hospital. Then they may either stay in hospital or rent an apartment till the end of treatment.
If patients follow the doctor’s advice the process of treatment goes quite uneventful. So far we have not had any serious complications in our Center after legs lengthening and legs correction.
During treatment we use a special computer system for surgery planning and determining individual parameters of dynamic characteristics of the frames.
